Acupuncture is a complementary medicine that involves the insertion of the skin with thin needles, which can be used to alleviate pain and treat various physical, emotional, and mental conditions.  The goal is to stimulate the blood circulation to flow through the body’s meridians and allow the process of healing to restore the body to properly function.

How Does Acupuncture Help Fertility?

Acupuncture has been known as an effective treatment for infertility.  Acupuncture is thought to restore fertility in patients by improving ovarian function in women and sperm quality in men.

According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, “PCOS is one of the most common causes of female infertility, affecting 6% to 12% (approximately 5 million) women in the United States”.   Acupuncture is an applicable treatment for PCOS.  It helps increase qi and blood flow to the ovaries, reduce ovarian cysts, decrease insulin levels, reduce cortisol levels, and assist in weight loss.  Acupuncture is effective in regulating hormonal imbalance signs and symptoms of women with PCOS.  Many patients find it beneficial and efficient in regulating their menstrual cycle and fertility issues.

At The New York Fertility Center, we believe the integration between Eastern and Western medicine is the best approach for optimal health for mind, body, and spirit.
